How to use the Mercari Fee Calculator
- Enter the sold price: the listing price or the offer you accepted.
- Choose who pays shipping. If the buyer pays, enter the Mercari label price as shipping charged to the buyer. If you offer free shipping, set the label price in the settings instead; the buyer then pays no shipping.
- If you ship on your own, enter your postage as your shipping cost. Pick how you cash out and enter what the item cost you.
- Read your fees, payout and profit, or enter the profit you want to get the lowest price to list at.
Mercari seller fees in 2026
Listing on Mercari is free. Since January 6, 2025 a US seller pays one fee when an item sells: a flat 10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, with no separate payment processing fee.
| Fee | Rate | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Selling fee | 10% | The item price after any offer, plus buyer-paid shipping; not sales tax |
| Payment processing | None | Dropped for buyers and sellers on January 6, 2025 |
| Buyer Protection fee | 3.6%, paid by the buyer | The item price plus buyer-paid shipping; never taken from your earnings |
| Shipping, buyer pays | The Mercari label price, added at checkout | Buys your prepaid label; the selling fee applies to it |
| Shipping, free for the buyer | The Mercari label price | Deducted from your earnings |
| Direct deposit | Free; $2.00 if a deposit fails | Once a day |
| Instant Pay | $3.00 per cash-out | Up to $600.00 a month, once a day |
| Mercari Authenticate | $5.00 per item, $10.00 for a certificate | Charged to your card for designer items, not taken from the sale |
| Cancelation fee | 5% of the item price, up to $25.00 | Only sellers who cancel often |
Who pays shipping changes your payout
Mercari has no price threshold: the fee is 10% at every price, so there is no awkward price to avoid. Shipping is what moves your payout. Here is a $50.00 item with a $7.48 label, paid three ways:
| Shipping | Mercari deducts | Payout | After postage |
|---|---|---|---|
| The buyer pays the Mercari label | $13.23 | $44.25 | $44.25 |
| Free shipping: you pay the Mercari label | $12.48 | $37.52 | $37.52 |
| You ship on your own for the same price | $5.00 | $45.00 | $37.52 |
Free shipping costs you $6.73 on this sale: the whole label, less the $0.75 of selling fee you would have paid on buyer-paid shipping. Shipping on your own leaves the same after postage as free shipping, but you buy the label yourself.
Worked example: a $40.00 video game
You sell a video game that cost you $12.00 for $40.00. The buyer pays $7.48 for a 1 lb USPS Ground Advantage label, Mercari’s Best rate until October 18, 2026 ($7.99 from October 19), and you cash out by direct deposit. These are the numbers the calculator above starts with:
| Sold price | $40.00 |
|---|---|
| Shipping charged to buyer | +$7.48 |
| Selling fee (10% of $47.48: item price + buyer-paid shipping) | −$4.75 |
| Mercari prepaid label (paid with the buyer's $7.48 shipping) | −$7.48 |
| Payout from Mercari | $35.25 |
| Your shipping cost | $0.00 |
| Item cost | −$12.00 |
| Profit | $23.25 |
Mercari keeps $4.75, 10% of the $47.48 the buyer paid for the game and shipping, and the $7.48 of shipping pays for the label, so Mercari pays you $35.25. After the $12.00 the game cost you, your profit is $23.25: a 49.0% margin on the $47.48 the buyer paid before tax.
What Mercari’s fees are charged on
- The completed item price. The 10% applies to the price the item sold for, after any offer you accepted.
- Buyer-paid shipping. When the buyer pays, the label price is added at checkout and the selling fee is charged on it too; the shipping itself pays for your prepaid label.
- Free shipping. The label is not part of the fee, but Mercari deducts its full price from your sale.
- Shipping on your own. You pay the carrier directly and must add a valid tracking number, and the package is not covered by Mercari’s Shipping Protection.
- Sales tax. Mercari calculates, collects and remits it as a separate charge on the buyer’s order, with no fee to you for doing so.
- The Buyer Protection fee. The buyer’s 3.6% is theirs alone: it is not part of your fee and never comes out of your earnings.
How to pay less in Mercari fees
- Let the buyer pay shipping when the market allows. On a $50.00 item it leaves you $44.25 instead of $37.52 with free shipping.
- Add package dimensions when you list. Packages within 1 cubic foot and 22 inches on the longest side get Mercari’s lower Best rates; larger ones are priced at Standard rates by dimensional weight.
- Weigh the packed box. If a package is heavier or bigger than its label allows, the extra charges can be deducted from your balance.
- Cash out by direct deposit. It is free once a day; Instant Pay costs $3.00 every time.
- Avoid cancelations. Sellers who cancel often can be charged 5% of the item price, up to $25.00.
- Selling trading cards? First-Class Envelope labels cost $0.00 for 1 oz and $0.49 for 2 to 3 oz until January 4, 2027.
Mercari fee changes
- (upcoming): new prepaid label rates. A 1 lb USPS Ground Advantage label at the Best rate goes from $7.48 to $7.99.
- : promotional First-Class Envelope rates for trading cards, $0.00 for 1 oz and $0.49 for 2 to 3 oz, until January 4, 2027.
- : prepaid USPS Ground Advantage and Priority Mail label prices started including USPS’s fuel surcharge.
- : the 10% selling fee returned, on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. The buyer’s fee fell to a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee, payment processing fees ended and direct deposits became free.
- : Mercari dropped the seller’s selling fee, so sellers kept 100% of their sales proceeds and buyers paid a fee instead. By January 2025 that was a 10% service fee plus 2.9% + $0.50 payment processing, both paid by the buyer, and each direct deposit cost the seller $2.00.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Mercari take from a sale?
A flat 10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. On a $40.00 item with a $7.48 buyer-paid label, the selling fee is $4.75; the shipping pays for the label, so Mercari pays you $35.25.
What fees does the buyer pay on Mercari?
A 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping ($2.07 on a $50.00 item with $7.48 shipping), the shipping if you chose buyer-paid, and sales tax where it applies, added as a separate charge. None of it comes out of your earnings.
What are Mercari’s fees in 2026?
The same as since January 6, 2025: a flat 10% selling fee on the item price and buyer-paid shipping, no payment processing fee, free direct deposit and $3.00 Instant Pay. Listing is free, and buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee.
Does Mercari charge a fee on shipping?
Yes, when the buyer pays for it: the 10% applies to buyer-paid shipping too, so a $7.48 label adds $0.75 to your fee. With free shipping the label is not part of the fee, but its whole price is deducted from your earnings.
What should I list at on Mercari?
Use “What should I list it at?” in the calculator. For $20.00 profit on an item that cost you $10.00, list at $34.16 if the buyer pays a $7.48 label, or $41.64 if you offer free shipping. The fee is charged on the completed price, so leave room for offers.
Does it cost anything to cash out on Mercari?
Direct deposit is free once a day and usually arrives within 5 business days; a failed deposit costs $2.00. Instant Pay costs $3.00 per cash-out and arrives in minutes, up to $600.00 a month and once a day, to an eligible Visa or Mastercard debit card.
Does Mercari still charge a payment processing fee?
No. Since January 6, 2025 there is no payment processing fee for buyers or sellers. The old 2.9% plus $0.50, which buyers paid, lingered only on older listings until they were updated.
